Student Housing

To address the pressing housing crisis, I propose the establishment of an Off-Campus Housing Committee. Collaborating with the Nova Scotia International Student Program, this committee will work to connect students with reliable housing options near our Saint Mary's University campus. By fostering partnerships with off-campus property owners, we aim to not only tackle housing shortages but also diminish the need for students to seek affordable housing far from the university.

Recognizing the recent reduction in the scholarship budget, I pledge to be a staunch advocate for increased funding. A higher scholarship budget will translate into more awards and bursaries, benefiting our student community as a whole.

Advocating For Regulated Fees Cap on International Tuition

International students face considerable financial strain, uncertain about future tuition costs. As your president, I will champion a cap on international student tuition within the Students NS advocacy group, representing the interests of Nova Scotia post-secondary students.

Sports

To enhance the sporting experience, I will:

Extend the time window for intramurals, ensuring more students can participate and enjoy various sports. Eg: Students complain about Badminton timings being too short and not everybody getting a chance. I will advocate for an increased timings for all intramurals.

Introduce new sports on campus, responding to student interests.

Increase promotion of intramurals and sports clubs, cultivating a vibrant sporting culture within our university

Promoting Culture

Embracing diversity, I will initiate a weekly cultural night hosted by the Student Association. This event will showcase different cultures and countries every week, promoting inclusivity and celebrating the rich tapestry of our student body.

I am committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion on our campus and enhancing the sporting culture at Saint Mary's University. Being from a minority background, I understand the difficulty of representing a culture which is not promoted much on campus. I see the passion of people who like sports in our university and promote the sporting culture. As your president, I ensure to promote different cultures as well as different sports throughout campus in order to increase engagement as well as inclusivity

Post Graduate Students

When discussing students, nobody talks about master’s/postgraduate students especially in accordance with the Student Association who are also looking for opportunities to network and have fun. As your president, I will make sure to host quite a number of events as per the timeline of post grad students so that they can also have the ideal student experience.

Student Association Career Fairs

I propose the introduction of a Student Association career fair aligned with their respective fields. This initiative will connect students with businesses associated with the Student Association, offering valuable networking opportunities and job prospects.

As part of my commitment, I pledge to host regular events aligned with their curriculum designed for relaxation, foster camaraderie, and enrich your university experience. Professors Forum

Student Sex Ed and Consent Workshops

I propose the creation of a Professors Forum during Student Association Mental Health Week, this will facilitate open dialogue between professors and students in order to help and understand professors’ mental health as well as make professors understand the mental stress on students. I believe professors should be a part of mental health conversation as well due to them having such a big role to teach in our university.

As your president, it will be my utmost duty to ensure a safe culture at SMU. Hence, I propose workshop initiatives which will teach sex education as well as the meaning of consent and how important it is ethically as well as legally. I am here to promote a safe and respectable culture on campus. These initiatives are essential for promoting a respectful and secure environment at SMU
